Louisville Trans Men
August 12 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
What to expect at an LTM meeting
The purpose of our group is to provide a safe, open, and non-judgmental environment to discuss identifying as a trans person and its impact on our lives. Our monthly meetings open with our Confidentiality and Limits Statement (below) and introductions, followed by a topic discussion (health, relationships, resources, etc.), and close with open discussion and support time.
The success of this group depends our commitment to confidentiality; all persons who attend our meetings are asked to adhere to the following:
Confidentiality and Limits
Confidentiality is the anchor of mutual support. By creating and maintaining trust we can share, support and connect more deeply. In order for this Group to grow and thrive, confidentiality must be established and agreed to by all members.
By participating in this group, you are agreeing to not discuss with other persons (such as family, friends, neighbors, etc.) any information obtained in conversation with the Group and/or its Members. This agreement extends to any interactions through our group’s Facebook page. Additionally, we do not publicly disclose our meeting location.
Confidentiality extends not only for the duration of the time you are in the Group, but also continues indefinitely once your membership with the Group has ended.
Please be mindful that some members of this group might not be out as a trans identified person. If you see a group member in public, please be mindful of the context in which you are seeing them and respect their privacy. Simply approaching a group member who is not out and/or with other people can cause them a high degree of stress and anxiety.
You should also understand that breaking confidentiality could result in the termination of your membership in the Group.
There are two legal exceptions to confidentiality that you should know about:
1. Incidents of child abuse; and 2. If someone declares a plan to harm him/herself or another person.
Both of these require appropriate authorities being contacted for assistance.
The purpose of the meetings is to provide support and information to persons who identify as trans. The meetings may be therapeutic in nature, but the group is not intended to serve as a substitute for therapy. While people may share their opinions, no one is dispensing medical advice. The group is never to have a medical or professional function.
